My review is not to negate the 5-star reviews, but I'm already totally frustrated with this book. The author starts off with a really simple template project (flashlight app), but then he spends like the next three chapters explaining Objective-C without using or referring to any exercise to help beginners make sense of what the talks about. At the beginning of some sections he says, By now you have a good understanding of such and such; and im thinking, I do? Why not refer back to the flashlight app code to explain the language. I'm heading back the Dummies book on Objective-C. This one is clearly not for beginners.

Puts all the missing pieces together - Samuel R. Posten III -
I've been fooling around with iPhone development since the day Apple approved my developer kit, and I've checked out all the books and video tutorials so far, but Craig's book is easily the most satisfying and in depth on the whole package that is iPhone development. Including the parts that most other books wave their hand over and expect you to get up to speed on your own on. Add in his alter ego for a few drops of humor and you've got one of the best books out there.

Great Price "101 iPad Tips, Tricks and Tweaks: A Guide to Essential Apps and Everything Else You Didnt Know the iPad Can Do" Today

As someone who didn't already know most of the tips presented, I found this book to be very informative - I also came away, after reading it, with a small list of apps that I will definitely check out the next time I visit the App Store. The only downside to this book, that I noticed, was that it contained a few spelling and formatting errors which, in my opinion, did not detract from what the book was presenting.

Overall, I would recommend this book.

I personally only learned one thing, so for me it wasn't great - Cruising - Illinois USA
The book is a collection of 101 tips. It is not a manual. From that perspective it isn't bad. The reason I rated this 2 stars, is that 99% of the tips are either obvious (plug it in overnight to fully charge and don't worry about over charging), or easily shared on the web already.

If you are a novice, this may be useful.

Great Price "Objective-C Pocket Reference" for $5.15 Today

As an advanced C++ programmer trying to pick up Objective-C (a weird freakin' language if you ask me), I found this little Pocket Reference to be invaluable. For one thing, its really small which I like -- who needs another tome to litter the bookshelves? I find that it is well written, I actually just started reading it from the beginning and found it to be pretty easy to follow. Finally I = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Understand"]; the crazy formatting for Objective-C methods which just looked like jibberish to me at first. Believe me, after 20 years of programming I can usually understand languages that I've never touched before -- I really needed this book to help me get a handle on Objective-C and it did a commendable job.

Negatives: of course, this is not exactly comprehensive. Since I am also learning Cocoa, I would have liked a little more Cocoa material mixed in. I did find that the writing was at times a bit confusing when discusssing some of the more abstruse concepts of Objective-C. And, always, I like lots of real code examples -- perhaps that just isn't feasible in a book this compact.

Overall, this is a very good book for a newcomer to Objective-C. With this in one hand and Google in the other I can get by quite nicely as I write my iPhone Apps.

Busy Programmers: If you have to purchase one book - this should be it - Irtaza Barlas - ATLANTA, GA United States
I purchased and went through three other books on the topic and eventually I learned the most from this book. The topics are arranged very well - with a generous description of programming style of Objective C, and programming patterns. If you are new to Objective C, this would be a good starting point. It explains well the topics with step-by-step directions. Also, as advertised, the programming load is more or less 60 minutes per chapter.
